Services
Counselling and psychotherapy offer a safe place in which to explore difficulties you may be currently experiencing. Your counsellor is trained to listen and be alongside you, and will neither judge nor advise you.
There may be feelings you are unable to share with family or friends, but which you can discuss in a completely confidential atmosphere with someone who is not involved in your daily life.
This process can help you feel less confused, gain a sense of direction, make changes in your life, or come to terms with things that cannot be changed.
Rosie offers this kind of service for general relationship and family problems, difficulties at work, sexual anxieties, and problems of stress and tension. She has specialist training and experience in helping people with:
- » eating disorders and problems of weight control
- » bereavement.
- » traumatic experiences such as road traffic accidents
Sessions last for 50 minutes, and are generally carried out weekly for six weeks. During the fourth session there will be discussion about whether to end at the sixth session, or to continue.
Supervision
Rosie Helyar has been providing counselling supervision for a number of years and abides by the BACP Ethical Standards for Supervision. She provides specialist supervision for therapists working with Eating Disorders.
Training
Rosie provides training for candidates who have completed her modular programme for weight control, in order that they may provide leadership for support groups. Training involves topics such as listening skills, physiology of obesity, assertiveness and group dynamics.
CBT
CBT is a good way of understanding how your thinking leads you to behave in certain ways, particularly in response to your feelings. Becoming more aware of the behaviour patterns you have developed, and being able to change these where necessary, can help you improve your quality of life. Generally 4 to 6 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic Therapy is a useful way of understanding how you relate to other people and how you think about yourself, by realising the influences and conditioning you have experienced whilst growing up. Having more understanding can then assist you in making any changes needed to improve your life. Generally 6 to 12 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
Transactional Analysis (TA)
TA may help you notice when you are stuck in a particular dynamic in relationships with others, and find yourself reacting in the same way.
Becoming aware of this, helps to take charge of problems in a rational way rather than being led by emotions. Generally 4 to 6 sessions: depends on issue and other factors
